Flavourtech’s new European home, the Plus Ultra III building, at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) was officially opened on Wednesday, 12th November 2025.
Developed by Kadans Science Partner, Plus Ultra III is the first laboratory building in the Netherlands built almost entirely with Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). Designed by Proof of the Sum, the timber construction makes the building CO₂-negative, thereby setting a new standard for sustainable building. In addition, the facade is clad with specially developed tiles made of 100% recycled PVC, in collaboration with Pretty Plastic. The building has been designed with circularity in mind: all components are demountable, and solar energy, thermal energy storage, and nature-inclusive elements have been incorporated.

Floor Vermeulen (Mayor of Wageningen) and Leon Skaliotis (Flavourtech’s GM)
Plus Ultra III was officially opened Peter Ploegsma (WUR), Michel Leemhuis (Kadans), and Wageningen’s Mayor, Floor Vermeulen on the 12th of November in Wageningen. Visitors were given, under the theme Circularity on the Wageningen Campus, a unique insight into both the building and the work of organisations on and around the campus. Its flexible laboratories and pilot plants, combined with offices and shared facilities, make the building an ideal base for both start-ups and scale-ups as well as R&D departments of established companies in the innovative food sector. Both the atrium, serving as the social heart, and the location next to the previously developed Plus Ultra I and II buildings encourage interaction and collaboration.
Flavourtech, along with Fuji Oil, Yakult, and Samyang Foods, are proud to be among the first users of this pioneering building. General Manager, Leon Skaliotis, commented that “Flavourtech and our European customers are very excited that we have our offices and, more importantly, our pilot plant at Wageningen University. We look forward to future collaboration with customers, academic staff and the resident international business community in developing and enhancing the food and beverage tastes and flavours of the future. Our Netherlands team is busy settling into the new mezzanine offices and coordinating the fit-out of our pilot plant downstairs, which will be ready for customer trials in 2026. We can’t wait to welcome you to Plus Ultra III!”
