Pilot Plant Manager – Griffith NSW

We are seeking a highly capable and hands-on Pilot Plant Manager to take full ownership of our pilot plant, leading its end-to-end operation with a strong hands-on approach.

This role is actively involved on the plant floor—operating equipment, preparing and running trials, troubleshooting issues in real time, and maintaining plant readiness through cleaning, setup, and coordination of scheduled services.

From executing trials to analysing results and delivering technical insights, you will be deeply embedded in both the physical and technical aspects of the operation. This is a highly autonomous role suited to someone who thrives in a practical, fast-paced environment and enjoys bridging R&D with real-world processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, maintenance, utilities, and overall readiness of the pilot plant to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance.
  • Plan and run pilot trials end-to-end, including setup, operation, data collection, and reporting.
  • Analyse trial results, conduct testing, and deliver clear, data-driven technical reports.
  • Contribute to research projects, translate concepts into pilot-scale validation, and support innovation initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise to internal teams and customers, manage trial expectations, and support enquiries.
  • Identify and implement improvements to plant capability, processes, and performance.
  • Ensure all activities meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Manage priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate progress, risks, and outcomes effectively.

About You

You are a technically strong and practically minded professional who enjoys working hands-on with processing equipment while contributing to innovation and problem-solving.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong technical background in processing, formulation, science, engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and troubleshoot processing equipment
  • Experience in laboratory testing, sample preparation, and technical reporting
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
  • Physically capable of manual handling (15kg+)
  • Full and unrestricted Australian working rights
  • Valid driver’s licence

Desirable Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Winemaking, Food Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Viticulture, or similar
  • ~5+ years’ experience in pilot plant, food production, or beverage/liquid processing environments
  • Passport, Boiler ticket and Forklift license (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience leading projects and delivering outcomes to timelines
  • Continuous improvement mindset with ability to drive change
  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capability

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary aligned with experience
  • Opportunity to take full ownership of a pilot plant facility
  • Exposure to global R&D and customer innovation programs
  • Career growth within a dynamic and evolving business
  • Regional lifestyle in Griffith, NSW
